Delaware’s worst traffic scofflaw is Md. trucker

A Maryland trucker who dislikes paying tolls might save money by driving anywhere but in Delaware: The state has him in its sights—and its courts.
Frank X. Maier, 55, of Abingdon, was accused of being Delaware’s worst traffic scofflaw for running up $2,800 in unpaid tolls at the Delaware Memorial Bridge, according to the Wilmington News Journal. He was convicted in March of felony theft of services and altering a license plate.
Now it’s gotten worse for Maier. The state is accusing him of evading $4,748 in I-95 tolls and wants $15,600 beyond that in administrative fees, state police said.
Investigators had trouble finding Maier the first time because he’d changed an “F” on his license plate to an “E.”
“He doctored up his license plate,” state DOT spokesman Darrel Cole said. “These folks who habitually and knowingly violate know what they’re doing and take a lot of measures not to get caught. He’s no different.”
