Rockville man accused of drowning children enters plea
May 30, 2008
State prosecutors are seeking life in prison without parole for a Rockville man charged with drowning his three children at a Baltimore hotel.Prosecutors filed a formal notice Friday in Baltimore Circuit Court.
Baltimore State’s Attorney’s Office spokesman Joseph Sviatko says prosecutors haven’t ruled out seeking the death penalty against Mark Castillo.
The 41-year-old man pleaded not criminally responsible this month to killing his three children in March after a custody dispute with his estranged wife. He is charged with drowning six-year-old Anthony, four-year-old Austin and two-year-old Athena.
Police said Castillo told investigators he drowned the children, tried to overdose on over-the-counter pain relievers and stabbed himself in the neck.
