Would-be victim punches attacker, takes his gun

By: Exhibit A
July 30, 2008

A man with a gun and his accomplice picked the wrong father and son to try to hold up in Pasadena.

Anne Arundel County police said that when the would-be robber demanded money and car keys, the 25-year-old son punched him in the face and took his .380 caliber handgun.

The foiled robber and his accomplice fled in a silver Dodge Stratus. Their counter-attacker chased them on Ritchie Highway, alerting police on his cell phone as he drove.

Police stopped the Stratus and arrested three occupants. Darryl Z. Moore, 27, of Annapolis and Rico D. Thomas, 22, of Glen Burnie, were charged with attempted armed carjacking, attempted armed robbery, using a handgun in a felony and first- and second-degree assault.

Ashley Cully, 19, of Annapolis, faces the same charges in the attempted carjacking of a woman in Glen Burnie earlier that night. The woman, who ran and yelled instead of giving up her keys, had told police she’d seen a silver Stratus.
