A Maryland woman has filed a lawsuit claiming she has a constitutional right to provide massage therapy to horses.
Under state law, veterinarians are allowed to provide massages to horses, while licensed massage therapists are not. But therapist Mercedes Clemens of Damascus, Md. wants to change that.
Clemens has sued two state agencies. She argues that the restriction is unfair, although she acknowledges that massaging horses can be more dangerous than massaging humans, since “it’s very unlikely a person on a massage table is going to kick me.”
