An upstate New York man has been arrested on his wedding night for marrying a woman six weeks after she took out a restraining order against him.
Timothy T. Cole, 45, of Batavia, N.Y., is facing felony contempt charges for marrying his 34-year-old bride.
Although the woman apparently quickly changed her mind about Cole, the protective order (which requires Cole to stay away from the woman as well as her home and workplace) remains in effect until July of 2011, and police said they can’t refuse to enforce it.
Police discovered the violation when they responded to the wedding reception after a report of an “altercation with a guest over a chair.”
