Dog testifies in murder case
September 12, 2008
A dog named Scooby has become the first canine ever to testify as a witness in a murder case, according to a spokesman for the Palais de Justice in Paris.
Police initially ruled the death a suicide, but opened an inquest at the request of the victim’s family. The dog, whom authorities believe was with his 59-year-old owner at the time of her death, reportedly “barked furiously” in the witness stand when the suspect was brought into court.
Judge Thomas Cassuto, who has not yet made a ruling in the case, thanked Scooby for his “exemplary behavior and invaluable assistance.”
