Police trying to catch thieves wreck 5 cars

October 13, 2008

Body shops might be the only winner after a purse-snatching in Prince George’s County left five cars wrecked and three people in the hospital.

According to police, a man snatched a purse from a woman’s car while she pumped gas. The man jumped back into a car with two other men and fled. The woman called police, who spotted and chased the car into the District of Columbia and back into P.G. County.

A county police cruiser “T-boned” a vehicle carrying two people in Capitol Heights, a neighborhood resident said. Three cars parked nearby were damaged. “There were five cars out there torn up,” said a neighbor.

The police officer and the people in the vehicle hit by his car were taken to the hospital but no one was seriously injured, police said.

The thieves got away.
