A couple charged in a standoff with police at a Hancock motel will be tried by a jury.
Attorneys for 26-year-old James Prevatt and 21-year-old Rene Reynolds made the request for a jury trial at a hearing Tuesday in Washington County District Court. The request will move the case to circuit court.
Prevatt is charged with threatening arson and other offenses. He had threatened to kill Reynolds and blow up the Americas Best Value Inn while they holed up in a room there for 45 hours in late August.
Reynolds gave birth shortly after the incident. She faces a conspiracy charge and both face theft and drug possession charges.
At the time of the standoff, Prevatt was wanted on burglary and larceny charges in Maryland, South Carolina, Massachusetts and Virginia.
