Learn how to oppose liquor licenses

The Community Law Center concedes that liquor licenses can help Baltimore neighborhoods by increasing business in them.

But the organization’s priorities show in the name of a workshop it has scheduled for Feb. 23: Protesting Liquor Licenses in Your Community.

According to the Law Center, businesses that sell liquor encourage drug activity, excessive violence and noise, and require extra attention from the police if they aren’t managed responsibly.

A liquor store and a club in the city made headlines last year when they lost their licenses after violent incidents.

Communities can take control by learning the laws about liquor licenses, how to negotiate with businesses that hold licenses, and how to protest license renewals when residents and other businesses are fed up, the Law Center says in promoting its workshop.

Advance registration is required. The $25 registration fee includes a copy of “Revitalizing Baltimore’s Neighborhoods: Legal Tools for Community Associations.” For more information and to register, visit the CLC’s Web site or call 410-366-0922.
