Charges to be dropped in beating
June 10, 2009
Court records indicate prosecutors will drop felony charges against a youth who allegedly beat his mother with an bat because she wouldn’t share her french fries with him.
Prosecutors at a July 7 hearing will dismiss the felony part of their case against 16-year old Dennis Hickman III. However, prosecutors could pursue felony charges through grand jury indictment.
Hickman was charged with first-degree assault. He is being held at the Cecil County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.
The incident occurred May 19. Deputies said Hickman, who lives with his mother, also slashed tires on her car and kicked the front door, knocking it off its hinges.
Hickman’s 52-year-old mother, Sheila Ross, was treated at a hospital.
