An emu bought to keep a cow company escaped from its quarters and spent a day on the lam before being cornered by detention center inmates working on ball fields.
Spook the emu flew the coop June 1 after a cow, who didn’t care for the bird, opened the door to its quarters.
Spook’s owners, David and Christine Reeves, live near Rising Sun.
The Reeves’ granddaughter made signs seeking Spook’s return. The emu — and the signs — were spotted June 2 by a utility worker near some ball fields.
The worker called David Reeves, and by the time he arrived, inmates from the Cecil County Detention Center had cornered the bird.
Spook now has a pen away from the emu-hating cow.
