As promised, Baltimore County is setting up speed cameras to catch speeders in school zones. County Police Chief Jim Johnson has released a list of the 15 zones where the cameras are being installed.

Baltimore City already has some of its 51 cameras operating. Here’s a list of locations.

Here’s a statewide list of speed and redlight cameras.

Cities and counties deny that they’re more interested in making money off the cameras than in protecting pedestrians and motorists from dangerous drivers. An Associated Press story, based on one by the Washington Examiner, doesn’t help their argument. It says that Chevy Chase Village’s police chief is looking forward to buying 12 Tasers with $30,000 brought in by fines collected through its speed cameras.
